Cognition and Emotion in Aging - Meet the Scientists!
A series of TED-style talks (followed by Q&A/discussion) with researchers at UM not just about their own studies but the "bigger picture" related to their research on aging. Most focus on attention, memory and emotion. No materials to purchase; occasional advance or follow-up readings may be distributed by email. This course will feature several researchers at the University of Michigan who use a variety of behavioral principles of attention, memory, and emotion, and how those functions may change as we get older. 9/12: Cindy Lustig - How attention and motivation come together in the brain 9/19: Ziyong Lin - Effect of incentives on attention in young and older adults 9/26: Lilian Cabrera - How do we learn based on value? 10/3: Katherine Cooke - Memory interventions (i.e., social, cognitive, physical) 10/10: Alex Iordan - What can network science teach us about the aging brain? 10/17: No meeting 10/24: Lisa Molnar - Memory, attention, and safe driving among older adults 10/31: Molly Simmonite - "It's not so different after all"- age-related changes in how our brains represent information 11/7: Tiffany Jantz - False memory and personal identity No class October 17.
