After 5 Package (3 fall term events)
A package of 3 Fall term After 5 events: September 27, 2017 -- Reinventing Real Journalism in the Age o Fake News Wednesday, 7 to 8:30 pm in the Campbell Room at the Turner Senior Resource Center Newspapers are dying. Television “news” is dominated by partisan opinion, yet Michigan news consumers can still find real news about real issues through Bridge Magazine. Based right here in Ann Arbor at the Center for Michigan, Bridge publishes in-depth news online at www.bridgemi.com four times each week. Center for Michigan/Bridge Magazine President and CEO John Bebow explains how to get the news you need to stay informed and how Bridge is building a long-term business model for sustainable journalism. October 17, 2017 -- Elections 101: An Insider’s View of Elections & Election Officials Tuesday, 7 to 8:30 pm in the Campbell Room at the Turner Senior Resource Center So much controversy has been in the news about voter fraud, election rigging, and ballot tampering that it makes us wonder why we should bother to vote. For almost twenty years Howard Scheps hired and trained thousands of frontline election workers for the City’s polling places, absent-voter count boards, receiving boards and other election positions. He tells us firsthand the practices, policies, laws, checks, and balances that are in place at the local and state level to ensure and protect your right to vote. A trained economist, Mr. Scheps worked on Wall Street, in the Federal Government and General Motors Corporation headquarters before serving as an Election Specialist for the City of Ann Arbor.
