Faces of Addiction -- 5/24 Daypass -- Origin and Treatment of Addiction
Carl Christensen is a Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry and OB Gyn at Wayne State University School of Medicine. He is board certified in Addiction Medicine and OB Gyn. Dr. Christensen specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of addiction, including pregnant patients. He is the Medical Director at Dawn Farm Treatment Center. Speaker’s Synopsis: Addiction is considered to be a “problem with drugs and alcohol.” However, it is actually a mental illness caused by genetic and environmental factors, as well as the drug itself. We will review the causes of addiction, the changes in the brain, and the available treatments.
