Journey to Freedom: Underground Railroad Bus Tour
The African-American Cultural & Historical Museum of Washtenaw County will provide an Underground Railroad bus tour called Journey to Freedom. We will spend the day visiting historically relevant locations within Washtenaw County. You will visit sites associated with activities of anti-slavery activists in Ann Arbor and a network of abolitionists in Lodi and Pittsfield Township. Most importantly you will hear the stories of freedom-seekers from Sharon Township to Ypsilanti whose names are too frequently overlooked or forgotten. You will have the choice to get off the bus for short periods at a few sites, though this is not required. Restroom breaks and a lunch stop are included. Guests are responsible for their own purchases. Learn what underground railroad activity took place right here in Washtenaw County. A more complete description will be available for the 2018 Winter/Spring Catalog. Registration for this event will open during January 2018.
