Book Discussion: Enlightened Aging -- Building Resilience for a Long, Active Life
Eric B. Larson, MD, MPH, will discuss his book, "Enlightened Aging: Building Resilience for a Long, Active Life" (Roman & Littlefield, 2017}. Dr. Larson's presentation draws from decades of research, leading the Adult Changes in Thought (ACT) study, one of the world's largest and longest studies aimed at preventing dementia. He will offer practical advice for growing old with resilience and foresight. He will also share inspiring stories from his experiences with his patients, study participants, family, and friends. His book proposes a path to resilience that may help stave off disability until very old age. Steps include being proactive, accepting the changes that come with growing older, and building strong physical, mental, and social reserves. Or. Larson is vice president for research and health care innovation at Kaiser Permanente Washington. He is also executive director of Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute (KPWHRI) and professor of medicine and health services at the University of Washington. He is a primary care physician specializing in internal medicine and a member of the National Academy of Medicine. This event is FREE, however, seats are limited and pre-registration is mandatory.
