An Afternoon with Medea
Euripides’ Medea: Witch? Femme fatale? Cold-blooded killer? Or wronged woman, driven over the edge? Our afternoon of study will consider why we remain so fascinated by her. After a short introduction, we will read the play aloud. Participants may choose to be readers or audience, as they prefer. At the end we’ll discuss our interpretations of her and our ideas about how the play might be staged today. We will be using the James Morwood translation, Euripides, Medea and Other Plays (Oxford World’s Classics) Reissue Edition. Marilyn Scott taught both at the University of Michigan and at Community H.S. She has led numerous OLLI study groups in the past.
