A Sense of Place: Modern Detective Mystery Fiction on Film
Many contemporary writers of detective mystery fiction convey a strong sense of place as part of their stories. This study group will examine how those authors have woven particular locations, from North America to Europe, into the fabric of their mysteries. We’ll watch complete films based on books by Tony Hillerman, Donna Leon, Louise Penny, Henning Mankell, Ann Cleeves, and Jean-Pierre Alaux and Noel Balen. (Includes non-English language films with subtitles.) George Ferrell is a mystery fan who has led previous study groups looking at the actors who have portrayed Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot. NO CLASS ON OCTOBER 8. Enter at Building 18. Parking not included in the cost.
