Post-colonial Literature: From Decolonizing India to Decolonizing Flint
With the official end of the European colonial empires in the twentieth century, novelists in former colonies began to write about their identities: what to recover from the indigenous cultures? In the twenty-first century, writers on racism have begun to use “decolonizing” to address race. What does that metaphor reveal about racial issues? What obscure? This is a flipped classroom: Sharon will lecture sparingly because reading and discussion are primary. Story tellers are Anita Desai, Viet Thanh Nguyen, Chimimanda Adichie, Tommy Orange, Isabel Allende, Dr. Mona Hannah-Attisha. All available in paperback.
