Money, Trade, and Power -- 4/23/20 Daypass -- Brexit: Where Did It Come From and Where Is It Going?
Speaker: Jim Adams, Shorey Peterson Professor of Industrial Organization and Corporate Finance, Arthur F Thurnau Professor, and Professor of Economics The University of Michigan Jim Adams has three degrees in Economics from Harvard. He joined the faculty In Economics at the University of Michigan in 1973. He has won several teaching awards at Michigan, including the Golden Apple Award students award to the best teacher at U of M each year. He also has studied public policies toward U.S. business and economic integration in Europe. He has held six visiting professorships at European universities. He also has advised several U.S. federal government departments and the U.S. Ambassador to France. Speaker’s Synopsis: Why did the United Kingdom decide to leave the European Union? Is departure good for the United Kingdom? Is it good for the remaining members of the European Union? In this lecture, the speaker will argue that the history of the European Union, and of the United Kingdom’s relationship to it, provide immense help in understanding the conundrums associated with Brexit.
