Unintended Consequences
Society often tries to fix things, but creates something worse. This is a very important, but not commonly discussed topic. A leading historian advises that “The law of unintended consequence is the only real law of history.” The course will explore case studies starting with Adam and Eve, and proceed through modern times, dealing with war, economic actions, and law enforcement. The presentation and discussion will compare what was intended with what actually occurred. Participants will come away with a more enlightened way of looking at the events that are continuously occurring around us. Martin Stolzenberg is the author of The Advocacy Newsletter for over five years. This weekly is about current events, society and people, including many of the topics covered in his talk. He is also a regular contributor to the Groundcover News, a local monthly newspaper in the Ann Arbor area.
