Understanding Performance Anxiety
Performance anxiety is a formidable challenge for many people who speak in public, play an instrument, take a test or job interview, play a sport, and
engage in social discourse with others. Psychological and physical symptoms often threaten one’s excellent preparation, self confidence, and self-
esteem. Performance anxiety can inhibit both professional and personal goals. This class will explore some underlying causes of performance anxiety that
typically have roots in childhood and cast a long shadow in life. We also will discuss, try out, and evaluate various coping strategies to better
understand what triggers performance anxiety and how to think about managing it more effectively.
