Mysteries in Our Cosmic Backyard: What We Do and Do Not Know About the Solar System
There is a common misconception, even among some astronomers, that there is little left to discover in our Solar System. However, many mysteries still remain even about our cosmic backyard. Do we have another, hidden planet? Was there life on Venus, Mars, or even an icy ocean moon? We will cover recent, exciting research from the Sun to beyond Pluto, as well as any questions you have about the Solar System. This study group will last for 13 weeks and will be a combination of online lectures and student driven discussions/learning. No previous math, physics, or astronomy knowledge is required. Larissa Markwardt is a 5th year graduate student at U-M. She studies special asteroids called Trojans, which are orbital companions to most of our planets.
