The Futurescape of Medicine: The Role of 3D Printing in Organ Regeneration
This presentation will cover the uses of 3D printing in medicine, from applications in surgical planning to the creation of engineered tissues for regenerative medicine. It will briefly describe some of the methods used for 3D printing, including the advantages and challenges of current technologies. Specific applications of 3D printing at the University of Michigan will be highlighted. Discussion of the past, present, and future of 3D printing will be encouraged! Jan Stegemann is Professor and Associate Chair for the Master’s Programs in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan. His research is in the area of biomaterials for regenerative medicine, with a focus on orthopaedic and cardiovascular tissues. As an educator, Dr. Stegemann has developed undergraduate and graduate courses in cell-matrix interactions, tissue engineering, and medical product development.
