Bridging Our Current Day Cultural and Political Divisions
We will use various on-line resources to lead discussions around key current day issues. The key tool is the “Intelligence Squared” series that uses the Oxford style debate format with expert teams arguing for an agreed premise and an expert team arguing against the agreed premise. Key topics from their large archive: • Forgive Student Debt • Death is not final • Anti-Zionism is the new antisemitism • The world would be better off without religion • Western democracy is threatening suicide Class members will be asked to review the ~90 minute IQ2 videos at home. Short segments of the video will be used to stimulate class discussion. Other resources beyond IQ2 may also be used. There are 6 sessions total taking place the first and third Mondays of October, November, and December. October 4 October 18 November 1 November 15 December 6 December 20
