Afternoons with OLLI: Detroit in Flux: Architecture & Urbanism in the Motor City
We consider new buildings and developments that are revolutionizing Detroit and its neighborhoods, from Bedrock’s ultra-contemporary City Modern
residential complex north of Comerica Park to a rash of new projects in Corktown in anticipation of Ford’s arrival at the train station, to The Belt, an
uber-hip, revitalized alleyway crowded with art, restaurants, and bars – a nice example of innovative urbanism.
Michael H. Hodges, longtime Detroit News fine-arts writer, just retired after 30 years with the paper. He is the author of two books -- Building the Modern
World: Albert Kahn in Detroit and Michigan’s Historic Railroad Stations”, both from Wayne State University Press. His work has also appeared in Salon,
the New York Times, Village Voice, Spy, and The Nation. Hodges grew up on a dairy farm in Rochester Hills and lives in Ann Arbor.
