Healthy Aging Series: The Art and Science of Healthy Aging
What is the art and science of aging well? This series will seek to answer this and many other questions about healthy aging. The goal is to explore the latest research and strategies for aging well, and living a long, meaningful life. The series is jointly sponsored by OLLI, the UM Department of Geriatrics, Turner Senior Wellness Program, Turner African-American Services Council, Silver Club Memory Programs, the UM Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation, and the National Poll on Healthy Aging. Broad topics to be examined include: • What are the latest findings about what one can do to promote brain health and reduce the risk of dementia? • What are best practices for aging in place, either at home or in alternative living settings? • How does aging impact existing health disparities that include race, gender, ethnicity, and disability, and how do we address these crucial issues? • Will there be sufficient resources available as we age? • What’s the latest on essential programs such as Social Security, Medicare, home health, and transportation? • How does one cope effectively with personal losses that may accompany aging at the same time we are coping with world crises such as the pandemic and climate change? More details on this series will follow on the OLLI website and in the weekly newsletter. We hope you will join us for all or a few of these sessions.
