The history of how schools are funded in Michigan along with the role of the lottery will be examined. Can we do better? 

Professor Ballard has been on the Economics Faculty at Michigan State University since 1983. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Princeton and got his MA and PhD from Stanford. During his time at Michigan State, Dr. Ballard won many awards including outstanding teacher, outstanding faculty, outstanding teacher scholar, and the list goes on. He has consulted with the US Department of Agriculture, Health and Human Services as well as research institutes in Australia, Denmark and Finland. His many books and research articles include Michigan at the Millenium and Michigan’s Economic Future.
